Die neue Leadsingle „The Fear“ aus dem Nachfolge-Album „It’s Not Me, It’s You“ soll nun Lily Allen in den Pophimmel aufsteigen lassen. Von der Girlie-Pop-Schiene sagt sich das neue Album „The Fear“ los und wagt einen total neuartigen Stil. „The Fear“ ist ein ruhiger Song mit ruhigen Klängen, doch den provokativen Texten blieb die Britin treu. In „The Fear“ gewährt Lily Allen den Hörern einen Einblick in die Seele der Musikerin, die geplagt von Angst wegen des Ruhmes und der Öffentlichkeit ist. Der verträumte Refrain verleiht dem Song durch seinen Trance ähnlichen Schleier einen märchenhaften Anschein. „The Fear“ klingt reizvoll und macht schnell neugierig, lässt gleichzeitig aber Erwartungen auf eine Entwicklung im zweiten Teil des Songs aufkommen. Das Arrangement bleibt sich allerdings treu, aber verpasst es, weitere Highlights zu setzen. Die Überrraschung erlebt man beim Hören der Musik nicht, und es steigt die Ahnung auf, sie könnte mit „The Fear“ wieder keinen wirklichen Hit mit Langzeitwirkung erreichen.
